Organizations often have business governance to help them determine where to best to spend their project dollars. Some key elements include a strong business case of the customer need and the cost to derive the need into business value. Many governance processes include stage-gates which are often waterfall-centric with a strong need to have all customer requirements defined upfront. At CA, we’re bringing agility to the forefront understanding that customer needs evolve and market conditions change over time.

This session will walk the attendee through how CA commenced on an enterprise Agile initiative, applying a self-empowered team approach of Agile champions to build the CA common Agile Scrum methodology. The initiative helped adapt the governance process by providing a balance between having enough information to make a business decision to invest in a project while allowing for enough leeway understanding that customer’s needs and market conditions change. We built an Agile framework for the delivery of a product start with the concept and business governance decision through to the release. This includes the all important end-of-sprint review where the Agile team demonstrates the sprint deliverable to the customer to get feedback and ensure the project team is building to what the customer values. In addition, we established an Agile planning product called CA Agile Vision to help us bridge the gap between Agile tools and PPM tools. This makes it easier for Agile teams to report on progress without adding extra steps to the process. Participants in this session will learn:

- Challenges in implementing Agile within a strong governance environment

- The key Agile practices that are critical to implement Agile on large projects

- Adjustments needed in governance in order to make the changes needed to support Agile

- An Agile Framework that is adapted to larger organizations that have business governance

- Specific focus on the value and benefit of the End-of-Sprint review with the product owner and customers

Biographie

Mario Moreira is an Author, Columnist, and the Agile Champion at CA. Mario has been part of the Management team at Fidelity Investments and Subject Matter Expert (SME) in the fields of Agile since 1998 and software and network engineering since 1986. At CA he provides company-wide leadership in the areas of Agile and Configuration Management to help transform product development and increase innovation. He is a certified ScrumMaster and has implemented Scrum and Extreme Programming (XP) methods and practices. Mario has recently authored “Adapting Configuration Management for Agile Teams” published in 2010 by Wiley Publishing-UK. It provides an Agile Primer and a CM Primer, infrastructure to support Agile with discussion on Cloud infrastructure, how to adapt CM practices for Agile Teams, evaluating Agile tools, and considerations for standards and frameworks in an Agile setting. He has previously authored "Software Configuration Management Implementation Roadmap" published in 2004 by Wiley Publishing-UK. It includes step-by-step guidance for implementing SCM at the organization, product, and project levels. Mario has written over 40 articles for both the Agile Journal and CM Journal on the latest in Agile, CM, Release Engineering, Release Management, Governance, and best practices.
